Description

This small (80 seats) theatre is situated just off the A6 at Beetham - just in Cumbria - between Milnthorpe and Carnforth. It had its origins in 1948, when a local headmaster formed an ambitious group. It has flourished through the years initially with the performance of plays, films and literary events. Only since 1966 has it developed its former rehearsal and storage space into a compact and attractive studio theatre.

A lottery award has helped to improve its facilities and develop the listed building.

It now has a full programme running from September to May, and occasional events during the summer.

It is owned by the the registered charity 'The Heron' and administered by an elected management committee, who are its trustees.

The theatre has a raked auditorium and, for its size, good lighting and sound facilities with separate dressing room and stage level access for loading/unloading. There is also a large car park which is owned by the theatre, and there are pleasant accomodation and dining facilities nearby. It is 10 minutes from Exit 35 on the M6 (follow signs for Milnthorpe).

The Artistic Director, Jeanette Barnes, would welcome approaches from companies seeking venues as part of a tour or for specific performances. You can contact Jeanette on 015395 60328.
